Last-day escapes from relegation are not good enough for Barnsley, according to assistant manager Micky Mellon.
The 41-year-old Scotsman has been praised for helping David Flitcroft guide the Reds to safety on the final day of the season after they looked doomed in January.
Although Mellon says the way the club stayed up was 'so incredible that if it was in a film you would think it was far-fetched' he does not want it to be a regular scenario.
Mellon says that he, Flitcroft and Martin Scott 'could have tried to get a job anywhere' but they wanted to stay at Barnsley as long as the board were willing to make changes.
He told the Chronicle: "It is very much about being at a club that wanted to improve on and off the pitch. It has taken some time to speak to the board and the owner but they have been absolutely fantastic in recognising that there did have to be change.
"It isn't good enough for us to just be satisfied with just escaping on the last day of the season. We are not going to say we will win the European Cup but we're ambitious guys.
"We want to keep the excitement going that we got from New Year onwards. We had some fantastic times and we feel that we have a handle on how the fans want the game to be played."
