Barnsley stalwarts Luke Steele and Bobby Hassell are considering their futures at the club after being offered one-year deals on reduced terms, the Chronicle understands.
The Chronicle contacted both Hassell and Steele this week but they did not want to make any official comments, althought it is thought that both could leave the club.
Defender Hassell, 32, who has made 295 appearances for the Reds in nine seasons, is still keen to play for Barnsley next season, which would be his testimonial campaign and was expecting to have to take a paycut. He is waiting until manager David Flitcroft returns from holiday to discuss the offer and has three weeks to make a decision.
Many fans may have expected 28-year-old goalkeeper Steele to have been offered a longer deal but only Martin Cranie and Tom Kennedy, who signed this week, were given two-year deals with Hassell, Steele, Jim McNulty and Tomasz Cywka all being offered 12 more months.
Striker Jason Scotland is so far the only player to put pen to paper on a new contract while the club have activated their option to extend Kelvin Etuhu's contract by two years.
Barnsley are hoping to hear from Steele and Hassell in the next few weeks as well defenders McNulty, who also indicated at the end of the season that he was keen to stay, and Cranie, who is thought to have several options after a fine season, as well as winger Cywka.
