Bobby Hassell says Barnsley boss David Flitcroft has told him he will probably only play around 15 games in the coming season.

The 33-year-old stalwart signed a new one-year deal this week and this campaign will be his tenth at Oakwell and his testimonial season.

In his Chronicle column this week, he said: "The manager has told me that I might only play 15 games this season and I respect that, but I'm determined to fight for my place in the starting line-up and have a run in the team.

"In my opinion, getting the other players signed up was more important for the club. I was humbled at the amount of people who stopped me at petrol stations, supermarkets and even when I was picking the kids up from school who literally begged me to sign a new contract at Barnsley.
