Dale Jennings was sent off five minutes into his Barnsley debut as the Reds were hammered 4-0 at home by Wigan on the first day of the season on Saturday.
Ben Watson gave the FA Cup champions the lead on 37 minutes with a fine strike into the bottom left corner from 25 yards.
Grant Holt made it 2-0 on 54 minutes following a corner before Jennings came on after an hour for Tom Kennedy but was sent off five minutes later for a two-footed tackle on James McCarthy.
Leon Barnett then made it 3-0 from another corner before Shaun Maloney turned in Marc Antone Fortune's cross for 4-0.

The visitors could have score several more but Scott Golbourne saved off the line twice.
