An elderly couple from Brierley say they feel they've had their freedom taken from them after a mobility scooter was stolen from an outhouse.
Kathleen Hardwick, 84, and husband Sidney, 88, of Grange Road, believe their outhouse was burgled on July 25 or 26 when thieves broke the door locks and took Kathleen's new red Shoprider mobility scooter, a present from Sidney.
Both Kathleen and Sidney are disabled and reliant upon mobility scooters for their independence.
Kathleen broke her hip five years ago, while Sidney has had both kneecaps replaced. He also suffers from dizzy spells, restricting how far he can travel on his own scooter alone.
Kathleen said: "We are in our own home and don't bother anybody. I could have cried after it happened.
"I won't be buying another scooter because I'm scared that someone will take it again. We have nothing else for them to steal."
The couple said it is the third time their outhouse has been burgled. In the first two incidents, thieves managed to take a spin dryer, lawnmower and gardening equipment.
South Yorkshire Police said that enquiries are ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding the incident should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
