A VAN driver was attacked near the Flouch roundabout after stopping for what he thought were two undercover police officers.
The men were after the contents of his white Mercedes Sprinter van and stole the vehicle after spraying him in the face with an unknown liquid.
Police are seeking witnesses to the incident which happened in a lay-by on the A628 west of the Flouch roundabout at about 11.15am last Friday.
The man pulled up in his van thinking a silver Volvo estate that had been following him was an unmarked police vehicle.
He had earlier seen what he thought were two uniformed officers in the car.
But as he pulled into the lay-by, which also contains a cafe, a green Hyundai saloon car parked in front of him.
The two men, both white, then confronted him and sprayed the liquid in his face, which partially incapacitated him.
The van driver was left on the grass while his van was stolen. It was later recovered a mile away on Whams Road minus its contents.
