A history teacher who quit his role in the middle east to set up a soup business will be just one of the traders at next weekend's Penistone Show.

Simon Cave was looking for a career change after a decade of teaching, including three years at the British School in Dubai.

The 32-year-old, who has always held a passion for cookery, decided to put the decision in the hands of his Facebook friends, and, following a month-long vote, around two-thirds urged him to start a soup business.

He has been back in the UK since the start of July and is all set for the 141st annual agricultural show in Penistone, following on from appearances at events in Emley, Bingley and Keighley.

"People love the fact I'm giving the soup business a go, and they love the Facebook story and are excited by that," he said.

"I'm very much looking forward to the show, the good people of Penistone need some soup in their lives."

Simon's business - Blitzed Soup - will be offering a variety of flavours, including chorizo, blackbean and honey, Thai Beetroot, and avocado and feta, at the show and, given the nature his product, he is possibly the only person who would not mind a bit of wind and rain.

However, unlike Simon, organisers have their fingers crossed for a repeat of last year's warm weather to build on the record turnout of 2012.

This year's main attractions include a stunt riding team and flyball, in addition to the usual vast array of livestock.

Show press officer Liz Walker said she was confident of a good crowd, regardless of the weather. "It's all going to be great, very exciting and we just need people to come.

"I think my favourite part of the show is people having a lovely time and meeting everyone you know, or people you've not spoken to, or people you may not have seen since the least year."

She added: "I love the cattle tent, it's amazing being so close up to to such mighty beasts."

Savings can be made on ticket prices by buying online ahead of the show, on Saturday September 14, at penistoneshow.com

Car parking will be available at Penistone Grammar School this year, for a small fee.
