A PETITION calling for the resignation of three Dearne councillors has been rejected by the council.

David Glover of Roman Street, Thurnscoe East handed the 376 signature petition in to the town hall yesterday.

He is calling for the resignation of the Dearne North members, Coun Alan Gardiner, Coun Alan Hancock and Coun Janice Hancock for allegedly failing in their duties to the community.

“Public feeling is that the Hancocks live in the village, but you never see them on the street,” he said.

“It’s like living in the middle of Beirut round here. I’ve had five car windows broken, been petrol bombed and threatened with an air rifle.

“The council does nothing to improve the state of this area and it’s getting worse. I’ve managed to sell my property but have lost £15,000 on it and I’m leaving the country. I’ve had enough.”

Barnsley Council leader Steve Houghton said that no action could be taken on the petition because no reasons have been given.
