Barnsley manager David Flitcroft is targeting several wins from the next few games to push the Reds up the table.
The manager says it is 'harsh' to judge bottom club Barnsley for their total of five points from 11 games because they have played nine of the Championship's top ten.
They now have home matches against Middlesbrough, who have won five of their 30 league games in 2013, and a local derby with winless Sheffield Wednesday ahead of a trip to Ipswich then a home match with Doncaster Rovers.
The Barnsley board have backed Flitcroft with the funds to bring in new players such as David Fox as well as a new left-back who is yet to arrive.
Flitcroft said: "I've not gone on and on about how tough the games have been but it would be harsh to judge my players on this start. We're at the bottom but we can only go up now and we will. We've played the form teams, not necessarily the best teams.
"We've got them out of the way and we know what they're about for next time. We have got a run of games now in which we can get results and start climbing the table. The only way we will get momentum is by winning."
Flitcroft admits it has been hard to introduce new faces into the tight-knit group that performed the 'great escape' in staying up last season. He said: "There's been a difficult transition from the squad that did so well last season. We have tried to add other players who have not had the experience of last season.
"There has been a shift in the dressing room but we're managing that on a daily basis and it excites me because we're taking the team in a new direction. "We need to gel the new and the old together."
