PRIEST Idol star Fr James McCaskill has outlined plans for a £300,000 rebuild of St Mary Magdalene’s church hall destroyed by fire earlier this year.
The hall — it was featured in Channel 4’s hit show — was gutted after hot roof tar caught fire while the building was undergoing repairs.
Five months later, an insurance settlement has been agreed, which will be used to rebuild the hall and transform the church.
Fr James said: “We’re pleased, after so many months, to have finally come to a settlement and one that's in our favour.”
He said he would have liked to have seen the building demolished before Christmas, but this is unlikely to happen. Its replacement will offer a range of new services.
