Greenfingered children from a Thurnscoe Youth Club spruced up a roadside verge as part of a project to make the village look blooming lovely.

Teenagers from Gr8 M8s braved the rain to plant more than 1,500 bulbs donated by Chevin Housing.

The planting on Lidget Lane was organised by Thurnscoe Environment Group after £300 was awarded to the group from Thurnscoe Alliance's community fund.

This bought the teens high-visibility jackets, tools and gloves.

Sarah Booth, of Thurnscoe Alliance, said: “It was great to see the kids pull out all the stops for the village.

“It was pouring it down, but everyone put in the ground work needed to make the village look great

“I am sure all of the children will be excited to see their hard work bloom when spring comes.”

The funding was awarded to the group in September after they applied to the £100,000 Keepmoat Community Fund, which was set up by the house builder as part of its new development of 875 homes in the village.
