Youth councillors Pegah Moulana and Chelsea Goulding said they were honoured to represent the views of Barnsley's young people at the UK Youth Parliament's annual House of Commons debate.

Pegah, 16, was chosen to give her viewpoint on better work experience at last Friday's debate and the discussion was broadcast live on the BBC's Parliament channel.

Five motions were debated under the chairmanship of the Speaker of the House, John Bercow MP.

'Votes at 16' became the priority campaign for 2014 because the youth parliament believes all 16 and 17-year-olds should be given the vote in all public elections.

After the debate, Pegah said: "I could not believe it when the Speaker chose me to comment. I was so excited and felt really privileged to be able to represent the views of Barnsley young people in the House of Commons. I am really thankful for such a great opportunity."

Chelsea, 17, added: "I had a great day. The atmosphere was brilliant, all the young people who took part were so enthusiastic and spoke with passion and confidence. I felt honoured to be part of such an amazing event."
