HEARTLESS burglars have stolen elderly residents’ Christmas presents from a Gilroyd nursing home.
Staff at Water Royd House had raised more than £500 to pay for the gifts, which included perfume and body lotion for the women and a toiletries set for the men.
A new fund-raising drive has now been launched to replace the presents in time for Christmas.
The burglars entered a downstairs office after breaking a window and made off with the presents, two cameras and some other items, leaving the room trashed.
Manager Chris Scott said: “There were things strewn all over the office when I first saw it. They broke into a drawer, but thankfully there was no money in the office.
“Like all the staff, I was devastated when I found out. This is the first time anything like this has happened here.
“We are now putting bars on the window to make sure this does not happen again.
