A SAFER neighbourhood team has been set up at Wombwell police station to help tackle anti social behaviour.
In the past a combined team has been based at the police station at Hoyland but the new set up is expected to enable members to achieve a faster response in the Wombwell and Darfield community.
Tasking officer Martin Kenworthy said:" Wombwell is the second largest town in the borough. It will be good news for the town."
The team will comprise a police sgt as well as police officers and police support workers.
The golden line used by the public to report vandalism and the anti social behaviour will continue to be the present number for the time being, but a new one for Wombwell will be introduced shortly.
Coun Dick Wraith:" This is long overdue. The three Wombwell councillors were promised a team for Wombwell years ago.
"It's very good news for Wombwell. The team does a very good job. The members patrol the cemetery, the park and High Street and they are very good when dealing with teenagers in certain hot spots in town."
