MORE than ten acres of land in Barnsley has been given business enterprise zone status which should attract more businesses and create more jobs.
The Sheffield city region enterprise zone is to be expanded so financial help will be made available at industrial parks near the M1 in Tankersley and Dodworth.
Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesman for development, said: "We have worked closely with the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership to secure enterprise zone status for this additional ten hectares of land at Capitol Park and Gladman Park.
"Both Gladman Park at junction 36 and Capitol Park at junction 37 are very well located for business and offer excellent local amenities.
"The existing enterprise zone sites in Barnsley, at Ashroyd Business Park and Shortwood Business Park at junction 36, are proving very attractive to employers with many new jobs being created.
"An example is Ellbee Limited, who have recruited 160 staff to date."
Ellbee, on the Gladman Park site, manufactures uPVC windows, doors and shower enclosures for the caravan, holiday home, new build, and off-site construction markets.
