SHEFFIELD Wednesday may be the favourites for victory in the bookies’ eyes on Saturday but history favours Barnsley in derby clashes at Oakwell. Out of the 27 games between the two sides played at the home of the Reds, Barnsley have won 13 and drawn seven, with the Owls winning just seven. Wednesday have not won at Oakwell since 1987 (six matches) and that was in the Littlewoods Cup, when the Owls won 2-1 with Steve Agnew on target for the Reds that day. Wednesday’s last league win at Oakwell was a 1-0 success back in 1984. The last two meetings at Barnsley have been drawn. Although Barnsley have the upper hand at Oakwell, Wednesday have the edge overall, winning 29 times compared to Barnsley’s 19. The Owls are also the form side at the moment, having won three and drawn one of their last five games. Simon Davey’s Barnsley have won just one and drawn two in that period.
