PROPERTY developers Dransfield have hit out at claims made by a group opposed to the supermarket plans in Penistone.

Dransfield lodged plans for the first part of the controversial redevelopment with Barnsley Council in November which is expected to result in a Tesco store being built in the town.

Last week Penistone Residents Against Large Supermarkets said the scheme was unsustainable.

The group claimed traffic and parking had not been adequately dealt with, existing businesses have not been protected, public transport access has not been provided, markets area will be destroyed and the site encroaches on Penistone showground.

But Dransfield's PR manager Lindsay McLaren says the claims are unfounded.
