TWO young showbiz stars who started their careers at Birdwell's Academy Theatre are returning - to save a show from being cancelled.
Danielle Steers and Perri Hanson, both 23 and now based in London, have stepped in to fill leading roles in the theatre's production of Hairspray, the American musical based on John Waters's 1988 comedy film.
They volunteered to help after other cast members had to drop out due to injury.
Danielle has just finished starring in The Bodyguard in London's West End and Perri recently completed a sci-fi/horror film called Scintilla - he plays a superhuman.
Danielle, from Monk Bretton, said: "It's nice to come back to where it all started. I first came to the academy when I was 12. We've now got the Hairspray script to learn in a hurry."
She will star in another West End musical next year but its title is currently a secret.
When she was just 21, she landed a dream role in the first arena world tour of We Will Rock You, the Queen hits musical.
