A NEW support group has been set up in Barnsley to help people struggling with chronic pain.

Fibromyalgia, also called fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), is a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body.

Liza Barnett-Tweedie, 41, has suffered from the condition for the past six years.

Because she is allergic to some pain relief, she has to reply upon morphine to cope and says she wants to help others deal with what can be a very difficult and, at times, misunderstood condition.

Liza, from Beeston Square, Athersley North, believes her condition was caused by her developing pneumonia, and says many things can cause people to suffer.

Liza has now officially set up the Barnsley and District branch of the Fibromyalgia Association and has set up a Facebook page for the Barnsley group.

She said: "I intend to support local sufferers, help them to meet people who know exactly how they feel and what they are going through and organise social events, even a Christmas celebration. I want sufferers to know they are not alone."

Anyone wanting support or to learn more about the new groups should contact the Facebook page Barnsley and District Fibromyalgia Group or call 0844 8872 444.
