Brampton boxer Josh Wale will pocket a career best purse after his British super-bantamweight title fight with James Dickens was sealed this week.
Wale will fight Liverpudlian Dickens live on Boxnation in early 2015. The date and venue are yet to be announced but Wale, 26, expects the contest to be staged at the Liverpool Echo Arena and he is planning on having a warm-up fight.
He said: "There were three or four promoters interested but nobody could match Frank Warren. A ring is a ring but you want your dues for it. This is a career best purse for me and I've been in some big fights.
"There is a big Boxnation show in Liverpool in a few weeks but it was too short notice for that. This gives me time for a warm-up fight and that has been agreed. "Dickens will be having one too and I'll be there to watch."
Josh praised new manager Chris Aston for sorting out the deal he feels he deserved as mandatory challenger for the vacant belt. He added: "It's why we brought Chris in. You need a good manager at this level and he has really fought my corner. I proved my worth against Gavin McDonnell in the last British title fight (a contentious draw) and was rightly made the mandatory by the board. A Barnsley fighter has not fought for a British title in 20 years but I will do it twice within nine months."
Arranging a warm-up fight for Wale should not prove to be too difficult and his camp are confident it will be in Yorkshire in either November or December. A southpaw would be preferable to get him used to facing a left hander ahead of the huge fight with Dickens. Wale said: "I've never really struggled with southpaws because they're open to my best shots."
