A YOUNG dad is fighting for his life in hospital after his car was involved in a hit and run.
Andrew Chesterton, 32, of Barnsley, suffered multiple injuries when a car smashed into his vehicle from behind, causing it to spin round and crash into a tree.
He suffered several broken ribs, a shattered pelvis, and was in a medically-induced coma to reduce swelling on his brain.
Andrew, who has a partner and 11-year-old daughter, was driving along Laithes Road, Athersley, near the junction of Lindhurst Road at 12.05am on Sunday when his car was in collision with an Audi A4.
A police spokesman said a 26-year-old Barnsley man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop and report a road traffic collision.
He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
