THERE has been a 'fantastic response' to initial tours around the historic Newcomen beam engine at Elsecar Heritage Centre, according to the council.
It is almost one month since the launch of the engine which the council hopes will become a major tourist attraction, adding to the economic prosperity of the village.
About 2,000 people turned out at the launch of the engine on November 21 - despite torrential rain - and the occasion was marked by fireworks, an honour guard of steaming locomotives and a switch on ceremony by Barnsley Mayor Coun Tim Shepherd.
