COUNCIL house rents in Barnsley are set to rise by an average of £1.74 a per week.
Council tenants face an increase of 2.2 per cent if the plan, which is based on the government's rent setting policy, is approved by a meeting of the full council on February 5.
The council say the increase is significantly lower than last year's average increase of £4.66, and will keep rents at an affordable level.
