A WOMAN who was savaged by a police dog has received an apology from the force after the attack left her needing 30 stitches.
Police originally stated Lyndsay Rodgers, 22, who lives on Elm Street, Hoyland Common, had been interfering with an arrest when the attack happened at 2am on New Year’s Day.
Miss Rodgers complained, however, and after an internal investigation, police have conceded that she was not interfering and have apologised for the incident.
She said: “I’m glad that they’ve apologised, because apart from anything, I was embarrassed.
“I was telling people what had happened and then they’d said in the paper it said something else.
“My work colleagues were asking about it and when I go to the hospital and tell them I’ve been bitten by a police dog, straightaway they think, ‘Oh, what were you doing?’ It’s not very nice.”
Police investigated the incident by speaking to witnesses and dog handlers, and compared reports with video footage from a helicopter.
