WOMBWELL Park Street Primary School parents are outraged by the new access and pickup arrangements at the newly built school.
Concerned parents held a public meeting on Monday night and questioned the safety of their children.
A parent, who did not want to be named, said: “Children are going to be coming out onto the main road. There will be cars coming in and out of the entrance at the same time, traffic up and down the road and no crossing patrol. Someone is going to get killed.”
Parents who pick up children by car have been parking by the side entrance on Hope Street and walking up to meet their children.
But from Monday, the only access will be from Park Street. Cars will turn in from the main road and into a new pick up and drop off turning circle.
Parents have been told they must not park here, but drop off or pick up only, and therefore cannot escort their children up the path to school.
Mum Carol Vains, of Broomhead Road, said: “My four-year-old daughter would cry if I left her at that drop off point. I wait with her until she is safely inside.
“I won’t just drop her off and let her wander up that long path. Anybody can walk in through the gate. You don’t know who is lurking about.”
