Barnsley are hunting a striker and winger in the January transfer window.
There are not expected to be any new signings before tomorrow's trip to MK Dons. But the Reds are looking to recruit two players – preferably on a permanent basis – before the deadline of 11pm on Monday, February 2.
Manager Danny Wilson said: "There's an intent to get one or two players in, whether we'll be able to produce that I'm not too sure. I would be happy to go with what we've got for the rest of the season but injuries do cause problems and there are a couple of areas in which we haven't got strength in depth."
Barnsley submitted three permanent bids for players at the start of the month, one of which was for Josh Scowen who signed from Wycombe Wanderers a week ago. But it could be back to square one with the others.
One of the bids was for Blackburn Rovers winger John O'Sullivan who was understood to be very close to a move to Oakwell before picking up an injury while playing for the Championship club's under 21 side. The deal is not yet dead but the Reds are looking at other options while the injury is assessed.
Wilson said: "The goalposts will move if the window closes and we haven't got him. His contract is up in the summer so the situation will change. We might have to look at other targets."
The third bid was for an unnamed Premier League player but the Chronicle understands Barnsley no longer expect to sign him with other clubs interested.
