Lewin Nyatanga's opener and a Paul Rachubka own goal gave Barnsley a much needed 2-0 win and put them on the same points as the defeated Crewe Alexandra.The Reds are now 18th in League One, five points above the relegation zone and seven off the play-off places.Goalkeeper Ross Turnbull was a surprise exclusion from the entire squad due to a recurrence of his back injury and his deputy Adam Davies started the game in goal – in one of four changes made by caretaker manager Mark Burton.Winger Dale Jennings was left out of the squad with illness. John O'Sullivan, signed earlier this week on loan from Blackburn Rovers, was named as substitute.Davies was twice called into action in the first half with former Barnsley trialist Marcus Haber testing him with a header and then a shot from a one-on-one opportunity.The Reds only mustered one serious effort on goal in the first half with Leroy Lita dragging a cross-cum-shot across the box and just shy of Kane Hemmings' reach. Conor Hourihane was replaced at half time by O'Sullivan and the addition of a wide man helped Barnsley gain the momentum they needed to go in front.The opening goal came thanks to a cross from Josh Scowen on 66 minutes and defender Nyatanga rose highest to power a header in.The goal took off some of the pressure that had mounted from a half time glimpse of other scores that showed the five teams below the Reds in the table were leading.Barnsley kept up the intensity and were gifted a second goal with ten minutes to go.
