MORE than 1,200 residents on 'district heating' schemes have won a reprieve on paying higher bills after the council confirmed a review of charges will take place.
About 1,200 properties belonging to one of the 24 schemes across the borough which share heat from a communal heating system rather than having their own boilers, received a letter to say the price of that heat was to rise from 11 pence per kilowatt an hour to 12 pence from April - an increase of more than nine per cent.
On Monday, more than 40 people attended a meeting in Cudworth to complain about the increase, saying they were afraid to turn on their heating.
Anne Warriner, 62, of Almond Avenue, said her heating bill last year was £1,400 and she paid £25 per month for electricity on top.
