FORMER president of Barnsley Photographic Society Russell Firth has died.

Mr Firth, 83, of Wombwell, died at home on March 28.

Russell was widely known for his photography with a keen interest in wild flowers, particularly orchids, recording many rare examples. He was acclaimed for his pictorial records of many local social and industrial events, including the reclamation of the Wombwell Main pit valley.
