PARENTS of Park Street Junior School children remain angry with worsening vehicle access - but there is hope for those attending school on foot.

A petition with over 100 signatures requesting the Hope Street access be reopened will shortly be sent to Barnsley Council chief executive Phil Coppard.

From this week, the drop off point which parents argued was inadequate, is now closed completely in the afternoons. All parents picking up children by car must park off site.

Parent Lloyd Vaines said: “This will alienate parents and simply shove the whole problem off site.”

Several people have voiced concern at the school’s alleged comments that children’s journeys to and from school were not their problem.

A new front entrance leading to a circular parent drop off point has been open for two weeks. Parents were unhappy that they could not park here and walk children closer to school.

When this entrance opened, the side entrance was blocked off meaning those walking to school from that side had to walk onto Park Street.
