Laurel Adams, 25, has reached the final of the Miss South Yorkshire competition later this month.
Marilyn, 71, was crowned the first Miss Barnsley winner 50 years ago. Laurel, a clerical officer at Barnsley Hospital, said: "I want to follow in my nannan's footsteps. She was getting all the pictures out from when she met the mayor, and she has still got her sash."
