CAPTAIN Paul Reid got his wish when he lifted the League One Play-Off Final Trophy aloft at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Saturday. The skipper admitted before the game that he had spent the week dreaming of leading his side to glory against Swansea. And after Nick Colgan’s dramatic penalty shoot-out save secured promotion, the 22-year-old’s dream had come true. “The game on Saturday even surpassed what I dreamed of,” he said: “It was an unbelievable day in Cardiff and to actually win the game and secure promotion was a weird feeling because the game was so demanding, both physically and mentally, so you were delighted but so drained at the same time.”

It was also a proud moment to present the trophy to the fans at Monday’s Town Hall celebrations. “Of course it was. Being a professional footballer is a great profession and I wouldn’t swap it for the world. You can have some bleak times when you’re injured or not playing but days like Monday just make it all worthwhile.

Reid also declared his immediate future to the club, if he can agree terms on a new contract, and said he would like to captain the side in the Championship. “A lot is said at football clubs, particularly when something like this happens and a lot of false statements get said but I have said all the way through the season that I love it here. It is not just the football but it’s my private life too. I am really happy here and it is the only place I have ever been where I can see myself living after my career.”
