A 92-YEAR-OLD Cudworth man who continues to volunteer in his local community has vowed to carry on until he is 100.

Ernie Oliver, of Churchfield Terrace, has done voluntary work all his life but even a severe case of arthritis hasn't managed to curtail his efforts.

He is a firm fixture at the North East Area Team's clean-up days around Cudworth, where he helps to plant flowers, prune bushes, paint, pick up litter and sweep paths.

Keen bowls player Ernie spent 20 years working as a miner before he purchased a 30-seater bus and converted it into a mobile fruit and veg shop, which served the communities of Cudworth, Royston and Shafton.

Ernie's tireless work has led to him being nominated for the Love Where You Live accolade in this year's Proud of Barnsley awards.
