THE cost of treating people with long term conditions due to a lack of exercise is costing Barnsley £5.8m every year.

The British Heart Foundation, which has released the figures, said this includes care costs of treating conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and some cancers.

The primary and secondary care costs of heart disease attributable to physical inactivity in Barnsley every year is around £3m.

There are an around 12,000 people in Barnsley living with heart disease.
