FIREFIGHTERS have issued warnings about the dangers of barbecues after a large blaze seriously damaged a house in Blacker Hill.

Fire-fighters called to the incident at Chaloner Heights on Tuesday (May 26) discovered that it started after a barbecue was lit on some decking.

The flames then spread to the porch and utility area of the detached house and the garage of the house next door was also damaged.

Four fire engines from Tankersley, Barnsley, Cudworth and Dearne stations responded to 999 calls about the fire at 9.30pm on Tuesday night.

All occupants were already safely out of the house when crews arrived and nobody was injured but three dogs were safely rescued from the property.
