THE first steps have been taken to abolish Brierley Town Council following a community vote.
Residents of Brierley Parish - which includes Grimethorpe - voted to abolish the town council earlier this month.
A motion acknowledging the outcome of the vote was passed by Barnsley Council yesterday and it was agreed council officers would work with
Brierley Town Council to produce a report with a strategy, key actions and a timetable for the abolition of the town council and the civii parish.
