INJUNCTIONS against illegal travellers camps are being planned by the council in a bid to protect vulnerable locations, the Chronicle has learned.
Travellers could be removed from unauthorised camps across the borough sooner should Barnsley Council decide to go ahead with an injunction plan to crack down on illegal sites.
At present illegal camp sites have to be assessed, welfare checks carried out on the travellers staying there and a meeting held between the council and the police before action can be taken to boot travellers off - which can take up to ten days.
It is also considering the use of restrictive place injunctions to protect vulnerable locations such as Carlton Industrial Estate and Netherwood school in Wombwell.
