A DARFIELD woman has set her heart on winning gold at the Beijing Olympics. And all while working 37 hours a week as a residential care officer.

Caroline Fisher, 24, is hoping that a good performance in this year's taekwondo world championships can guarantee a place on the 2008 team.

“I'm not in the world championship team yet but I should get confirmation in the next few days.”

“If I can put in a strong showing I will be in with every chance of going to the Olympics.”

Caroline turned down the opportunity of going to the national taekwondo academy earlier this year saying she could not afford to give up her full time job. She added: “This does make things more difficult.

“I am going up against other athletes who train full time to a professional level. I have to train whenever I am not working.”

The black belt has already represented her country in two European and one world championship.

She gave up taekwondo in 2001 to go to university in Northampton studying criminology and sport but returned to it in 2005.

Now she trains at the Doncaster Scorpion Taekwondo Club with her coach Peter Adamsons.

He said: “She is very dedicated, there are not many people who could do what she does.

“Her long term aim is to win a medal on home soil at the 2012 London games.”
