Josh Scowen believes Barnsley can score more goals than they are currently getting.
The tenacious midfielder, 22, pictured, has netted once from the penalty spot this season in the Capital One Cup win over Scunthorpe and intends to get more. He also feels he and his team-mates can improve their attacking plays and support the loan striker.
He said: "I think we've got to be more positive and try more shots from around the box and have a bit more clever play around the box as well. As a midfield, I think we probably do need to get closer to the striker more but that's down to the players not the formation. If it's Sam (Winnall) up front for instance we need to try and support him a bit quicker.
"If we can get in the box it helps the strikers out and it's not putting all the pressure on them to score the goals. Last year I scored more than I have ever done and I want to build on that. The gaffer wants goals from all over the pitch. Winning games is the most important thing, it doesn't matter where the goals come from. We've had some great results and some not so good. We want to try and get a winning streak going."
Scowen was criticised along with James Bree for not talking enough during games by head coach Lee Johnson. The player says he and the others appreciate the boss' sometimes harsh comments. Scowen added: "He says things to all the boys. "It's only to help us all improve as players and as people as well. It's a division where anyone can beat anyone. We beat Burton who are now top of the league now. If you play as well as you can then you can beat anyone in this league."
Scowen is one of three ex-Wycombe players at the club now along with Kadeem Harris and skipper Alfie Mawson. Scowen added: "Kadeem's a good player. He's really positive and he should do well for us."
