THE woman who ran one of Barnsley’s most famous shops has died aged 92.

Jennie Burdon-Bailey ran Baileys of Barnsley - the shop that famously had a large neon stork and advertising slogan “We supply all but the baby’.

The shop, which first opened in Barnsley in the early 1880s in Cheapside, was originally a draper’s shop/haberdashery which sold all kinds of goods/clothing for all ages.

She continued to remain fit and active and was still driving herself around until earlier this year. She died in hospital after a short illness.

Her son John said: “She lived a good life and was a successful businesswoman which she thoroughly enjoyed. She loved the business and helping people find what they were looking for.”
