TRIBUTES have been paid to the president of the Barnsley Branch of the National Market Traders’ Federation Geoff Blackburn.
Geoff died last Tuesday, aged 79, following a short illness. He had continued to work on his carpet stall on the semi-open market until just a few weeks ago.
His funeral was held yesterday, with Thursday chosen because Geoff ‘would not have wanted it to be on a market day’.
Peter Kwapisz, vice president of the Market Traders’ Federation in Barnsley, said Geoff was one of the market’s ‘great characters’.
