A DEAL worth more than $6 billion to create the world’s biggest solar power plant in Turkey will bring 600 jobs to Barnsley, the boss of the firm behind the deal has told the Chronicle.
Dodworth-based Solar Europa Global, led by entrepreneur David Hawkins, has signed an agreement with Turkish power giant Eltemtek to construct a huge solar farm in Karaman, southern Turkey.
The international deal was backed by Prime Minister David Cameron and has been supported by the UK government.
The firm has now acquired a ‘significant site’ to build a factory to build the solar PV panels in Karaman, and intends to develop a similar plant in Barnsley.
