HUNDREDS are expected to descend on Barnsley town centre tomorrow to take part in an anti-immigration demonstration - and a separate rally against racism.
The ‘It's not immigration it’s invasion’ rally has been organised by Dale Kelk, a member of the right-wing group South Yorkshire Casuals II in protest against Barnsley Council offering immigration services to the ‘incoming horde of Syrian refugees’.
A Barnsley Solidarity March will go ahead on the same day but after the immigration march has ended to stave off any confrontation.
Those taking part include members from Stand Up To Racism, Barnsley Borough City of Sanctuary, Barnsley Trades Union Council, Barnsley People’s Assembly and Unite Against Fascism in Solidarity.
Stand Up To Racism secretary Fran Postlethwaite said: “We are expecting a good turnout for our rally against racism to say ‘refugees are welcome here’.
“We wantÊto show that the anti-immigration march called by the South Yorkshire Casuals does not represent the views of the people of Barnsley.”
