THE mother of a Barnsley soldier who was the first Briton to be killed fighting ISIS terrorists has spoken in support of air strikes in Syria.

Vasiliki Scurfield told the Chronicle the targeted air strikes against ISIS were needed.

Her son Kosta, 25, of Manor Occupation Road, Royston, was killed in Syria in March after travelling to the war-torn country to fight alongside the Kurdish forces.

Vasiliki, 49, said: “I’m in support of the air strikes generally, because they are air strikes against Daesh (ISIS), not against Syria. I think there was some confusion and that people thought we were going to go in and carpet-bomb. But they are targeting ISIS and it is needed.”

She previously told how Kosta’s frustration at the lack of government action was what made him want to help and said she believed he would think the air strikes were ‘too little, too late.’
