A NEW ‘team strip’ could be adopted for both firefighters and their civilian colleagues in South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority will discuss at a meeting on Monday whether they should follow that route, which has already been adopted by the fire service in Staffordshire.
Other options include headquarters-based personnel being told to wear civilian clothes in future and the possibility of restricting the use of rank badges to operational staff, public events, meetings with outside bodies and ceremonial duties.
South Yorkshire officials want to establish whether such changes would have a positive impact on the culture of the organisation and they will be discussed by councillors who make up the fire authority when they meet in Barnsley.
