THE bells at Wortley St Leonard’s Church are due to be re-installed this week following a major restoration at a Midlands foundry.

They were removed in the autumn and had originally been expected to be back in place in time for Christmas, but the workload at John Taylor’s foundry in Loughborough, which has been carrying out the work, was such that the job had to be put back to January.

However a party of bell ringers, parochial church council members and friends have visited the foundry to see work in progress on the bells, including the restoration of the wheels used to support the bells, using three different types of wood.

When they have been refitted the church clock will also be re-started.
