New signing Ashley Fletcher says he is hoping to develop as a player during his spell at Oakwell.

The Manchester United frontman, 20, signed a month's youth loan yesterday and is available for Saturday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy match against Fleetwood Town.

Fletcher is hoping to get off the mark straight away and has been impressed with what he's seen of Barnsley's players.

He said: “I have already seen the quality that Barnsley have in training. Sam Winnall and Adam Hammill are very good players and I hope they can lay chances on for me.

“I’ve only heard good things about Barnsley from Ben and Joe (Rothwell) and I am looking forward to helping the team.

“We will see how the first month goes and then take it from there.

"Getting first team football for me was the next step. I want to be playing in front of bigger crowds and against more experienced defenders. It can only help develop my game. I'm confident that I can get goals."

Fletcher will be at Oakwell until February 6.
