A YEAR 11 student at Carlton Community College has written a glowing endorsement of her school’s transformation.
Shania Rimmington gave a speech at an open evening for prospective students and their parents at a year six open evening.
She sent a ‘draft copy’ to the principal to see what he thought, who insisted she didn’t change a word.
In it, she said: “When I first started at Carlton in 2011, the school was being ranked the worst in Barnsley with a diabolical disciplinary system and even worse grades. Pupils were smoking on site and their respect for the adults and teachers within the school was practically non-existent.”
She described having done well in exams at primary school, and being targeted to do well at Carlton, but ‘due to the lack of discipline’ and the lack of permanent teachers she was allowed to lose concentration and effort in every lesson.
