Holgate School took home the silverware at its first cheerleading competition.

The team won first place in the UK Cheerleading Association School Championships. Two other school teams took a second and third place and a fourth came third in the advanced section.

PE teacher and coach Sally King received a personal award for cheerleading development and coaching.

The teams, made up of year 9, 10 and 11 pupils was formed in November and since then along with parents and staff have been fundraising for uniforms and entry fees.

Through activities such as bag packing, coffee mornings and baking they raised £6,000.
