TWO children’s slides have been stolen from a Ward Green play area.

Ward Green Community Association spent seven years trying to obtain funding to have the play area installed, which they eventually secured two years ago.

Association member Lou Whitehead said he thought the slides had been stolen for scrap metal.

“They've been unbolted, so somebody's come prepared for the job. It’s not just kids messing about.

“It took us a long time to get those slides and the kids are really disappointed. It’s heartbreaking.”

The play area cost almost £40,000 and Lou said he did not know if it would be possible to replace the missing equipment.

“It'll be about £2,500 to replace the slides. We’re looking for funding but we've never come across this before.

“We've got new things before but we've never had to get a replacement for something that's been broken or stolen, so we don’t know how we'll get on.”
